• Needle - as reqd. • Cloth - as reqd.
• Thread - as reqd. • Thimble - as reqd.
• Hoop - as reqd.
PROCEDURE
TASK 1: Practice tertiary work of watti tout
1 “Watti” in Kashmiri means thick or bold. 2 A slightly thicker thread or multiple strands of the same
thread are used. (Fig 3)
2 “Tout” refers to outline stitching.
3 So, watti tout is a thick outline stitch worked around Fig 3
the motif. (Fig 1)
How It’s constructed

1 The design is traced onto the fabric. (Fig 2)

3 The outline is stitched using a tight backstitch or stem
stitch, but repeated 2–3 times to make it bold. (Fig 4)

2 In this embroidery double thread is used.
